I HATE GETTING NERVOUS

‘’Ok, Nikk are you ready?’’ my Mom said.
I could feel the butterflies in my stomach. I had been skating for about two years. I was pretty good. I had entered contests before, but this was the biggest one. That was what made me the most nervous. The kids that I was going up against skated that park everyday so they were really good at that.
‘’Well Nikk, are you ready?’’
‘’Yeah Mom sorry’’ we jumped in the car. When we got to the Marina Skatepark they were already having a practice session for my age group. I bolted out of the car and started skating. I had my run down; I was landing every trick.
Then the announcer said that it was time for the contest to begin. Everyone was having good runs. I was very focused on my run and what tricks I was going to do.
‘’Nikk, you’re up,’’ said the announcer. They had music, people were cheering, the announcer was calling out my tricks I was doing, and my friends and family were cheering so that pumped me up. When I started skating my confidence shot up. I was landing every trick. Consistency is really good in contests; it doesn’t matter if you are doing the best tricks you just have to be consistent. My run was about one minute long. I had the last run so after that they started announcing the winners.
They started from third to first. When they didn’t call my name for third or second I got kind of scared. Then first came, and they were leading up to it by saying that they had a very good run and very consistent. ‘’Congratulations Nikk you got first place’’ the announcer said. I was so excited.
My prize was a On The Beach skateboard, a Girl skateboards shirt, some stickers and about thirty dollars.
‘’So, Nikk, you want to ride for us maybe?’’ The owner of On The Beach asked.
‘’No, I want to ride for Bills Wheel skateshop’’ I said.
I got in the car to go home, My mom was so happy for me she said I could get anything to eat. My choice. We went to Coldstones and Pizza My Heart. It was a good day. This was the first of many contests that taught me too always be confident.
