Horse Riding
“Are you excited
about riding a horse today at Annabelle’s Birthday party?” I asked Mary as we
were driving to Sunshine Ranch.
Everyone going to the party met up at the First Presbyterian Church to carpool.
We went in the Grebing’s car with one of Mary’s friends, Audrey.
As we were driving down to Carmel Valley, Mary and Audrey were both very excited.
Mary had never ridden a horse and Audrey had only been on once or twice. I on
the other hand had been on horses many times before.
When we got there they briefly explained what we were going to do today, and
then they broke us up into two groups. Amanda and I were in the second group.
While the group was being told the safety guidelines and rules about being around
the horses the second group went down to the picnic tables to get a snack.
After the first group had finished, it was our turn. (They, however, never went
over the safety rules group two!)
They lead us out to the little arena where the horses were. Everyone started
walking to the horse they wanted to ride.
I was walking over to a medium sized, tan horse, but my helmet was to small
so I had to go and get another one from the barn.
When I got back someone had already got on to the horse that I was going to
get on.
Then I heard a lady call, “We need someone taller over here.”
I turned around and saw a huge red, brown horse, and I apprehensively said,
“Ok.”
They had to bring him to the center of the arena because I was too short to
get on him without using the wood staircase. I climbed up the three stairs and
swung my leg over to the other side, but as soon as I did that the horse got
spooked and started kicking and trying to buck me off.
All of a sudden I heard a lady call up to me, “Do the emergency displant!”
For a moment I was just stunned and almost frozen because I was so frightened!
Finally it donned on me to jump off. When I got to the ground I was shaking.
A couple minutes later, when they had gotten the horse to come down and brought
it out of the pen, the same lady who had told me to, “jump off” asked me “He
seems to be calmer out her so....do you want to get on again?”
I just was kind of like what; you want me to do what!
I said no it was okay and then they asked Amanda. She got on it and the exact
same thing happened.
After that we went and had cake. Even though that happened it was still very
fun.
