Flipped Off… the board

There I was, a normal kid at the normal Carmel beach on a normal day. Little did I know that when I went in the water this day, it would be a recipe… For Disaster!! (Cue ‘twilight zone’ music).
I’m not sure how old I was, but anyway, here’s the story: My parents were up on the beach walking my dogs, but me and my sister were alone in the water playing; alone, with about a hundred other kids. I was off by myself, trying to catch a wave on my boogie-board. I was watching the sea when I spotted a pretty good swell coming in from the sea. So, as it came up past me, I hopped onto my board and got right in front of the wave. Now, for people who know how to boogie-board (which at the time, I didn’t) this is not good; because when this happens, the wave will crash on top of the boarder and force the board to do a nosedive into the water.
This is exactly what happened to me. I was inexperienced, and so I felt myself being thrown off the board and flew head-first into the water (with about half of me following). Luckily, I’ve done this before, so I was prepared and thus: No Boogie-Boarders were harmed in the making of this experience. As I came up spluttering, I felt my board wash back on top of me with the tide, knocking me back down again. By the time I crawled back onto the beach, I was freezing cold and laughing like crazy. So were my parents and sister, who’d just come in from the water. Even if it was at my expense, it was still worth the laugh.
