3 vs. 3
“I’m going to
go outside to play basketball!” I shouted enthusiastically. Basketball is my
favorite sport, but sometimes I don’t like all the plays that you have to perform.
This happened about 4 months ago on one sunny Saturday afternoon. My brother
decided to join me, so we both went outside to play basketball.
My brother and I were darting to the basketball court to see who could get there
first. The basketball court was only about three blocks away from our house,
so it didn’t take that long to get there. One minute later we arrived at the
basketball court with plenty of energy to spare. When we got there, we saw a
bunch of college high school kids playing on both sides of the court. We waited
patiently. We wanted them to play on one side of the court so we could play
on the other side.
About fifteen minutes of watching their game, we were still waiting, but this
time we were anxious. I guess we wanted to join in, but, I don’t think our basketball
skills were good enough to play against them because they were like college
students. “Hey, can we play?!” I shouted.
“Yeah sure, but be careful we play a little rough,” said one of the guys.
We started the game. We didn’t want to play 2 on 4 so, we decided to play 3
on 3.
My brother and I were paired up with one of the best players, Mark. We started
the scrimmage and already the other team scored 3 baskets, so it was 6 to 0.
We had to make some points. I got the ball and I called out the play 3 point
cross line which means the
other players on your team picks each other and then they go to opposite sides
of the three point line and I would have to pass it to one of them and they
would shoot. The game went on for 2 hours. The score was 50-43. We lost, but
it was a close game. We exchanged high fives and went home.
The game was very exciting. I felt a lot of adrenaline. Everybody played their
hearts out, even though we played for fun. The lesson I learned that day is
that you should never be afraid to challenge someone even if they are bigger
and better than you.
