Lost On the Fourth of July

The fourth of July is one of my favorite days of the year, that is, with the exception of the year of 1999. My family and I were looking at the ring toss booth, at the Fourth of July Community Festival. Everything was fine, until I turned around and my family wasn’t their
“Mommy!” I screamed, “Where are you?” I kept yelling my lungs out, but no one came back for me or answered my call. I didn’t know what to do, so I just sat down and started to cry. Suddenly, I looked up and there was a big clown on stilts looming over me. I can still see the distinct face of the clown today, with its white painted and cracked face, the big red nose, and the orange curly hair. Seeing that face just made me bawl even harder.
“What’s the matter sweetie?’ said an unknown voice.
I stopped crying long enough to see a kind looking woman standing over me.
“I can’t find my mom!” I exclaimed,
“Oh,” she remarked, “come with me.” She then picked me up and walked me over to a police booth. A policeman’s voice boomed my parents names over the loudspeaker, and my family rushed over to come get me.
There was a lot of hugging after that, and luckily, I didn’t get in trouble
because it wasn’t entirely my fault that I got lost. I was very scared and worried at the time of the incident, but I was very relived to see my family again afterwards. I learned to always make sure that someone is with you, especially if your only four or five years old!
